Foot drop
This video presents a suggested exercise for patients with foot drop.
Exercise used:
- CPM + EMG + EMS
Settings:
- EMS – unidirectional,
- Movement type – flexion,
- Electrode placement – tibialis anterior, peroneus longus,
- Movement trigger and EMS – tibialis anterior,
- Electrostimulation – tibialis anterior and peroneus longus.
The patient’s task is to generate activity in the tibialis anterior muscle. The electrostimulation of both muscles is synchronized with the movement, inducing dorsiflexion of the foot with lateral stabilization.
If the patient is able to generate activity in the peroneus muscle, it can also be successfully used as a trigger.
This exercise, depending on the situation, can also be performed in the CPM + EMG or CPM + EMS variants.
